Courses are written for what lots of people want to learn. What you want is usually more specific than that, so start by saying exactly what it is, as specifically as you like. These are mine:
| Go | Play Go at an amateur dan level. | Try → |
| Drawing | Sketch well enough that, with image-to-image models, I can make anything I can picture, in fine detail. | Try → |
| Explainer videos | Make explanatory videos that are actually entertaining: 3Blue1Brown, Sheafification of G, old Fireship. | Try → |
| Classical Chinese | Read and translate the Daoist and Buddhist classics, and talk to LLMs in fewer tokens. | Try → |
| Category theory | Categories for the Working Mathematician, understood both as a functional programmer and as a mathematician. | Try → |
| C | Write terse, macro-heavy C the way Arthur Whitney and ngn do. | Try → |

Then you learn it by doing the real thing, not a syllabus about it: you play real games, build the actual program, hold the conversation. The tutor watches, steps in less as you improve, and notes what you manage on your own:
Game 14, against the club bot
22. Ne4 Qd7
23. Nf6+
forks and pins
Two unaided successes in the last three attempts made it demonstrated.
Writing the parser yourself
assignment 3 is pushed, the parser’s mine now
github.com/you/parser @ a3f9c1the recursive descent holds up, and you handled unary minus without being asked. the next assignment leaves operator precedence to you as well.
recursive descent
Two unaided successes in the last three attempts made it demonstrated.
Boxes in two-point perspective

two-point perspective
Two unaided successes in the last three attempts made it demonstrated.
Talking about the weekend
e o que você fez no fim de semana?
fui à praia para nós descansarmos um pouco.
que bom! e vocês foram de carro?
the personal infinitive
Two unaided successes in the last three attempts made it demonstrated.
Where you start changes the route. Two people both want to read the Daoist and Buddhist classics: one reads modern Chinese, the other learned kanbun at school in Japan. The tutor plans each map from what that person already knows, so a head start counts, even an unexpected one:
Reads modern Chinese
Did kanbun at school in Japan

Your map works like a skill tree in a game, except the skills are real. A node lights up once you’ve shown you can do it, so you always know how far you’ve come and what opens next. If the tree is wrong, change it.
Read the Daoist and Buddhist classics
Next: the old meanings of familiar words, then 之 乎 者 也.
And once you’ve got it, share it. If you learned something unusual, someone else will want it too, and what’s worth learning now changes faster than any curriculum can follow. It’s up to curious people to share the frontiers.
